H.E. Mr Claudio De la Puente, Ambassador of Peru to the United Kingdom, with Mr Robério Oliveira Silva, Executive Director of the ICO. Ambassador De la Puente delivered Peru’s instrument of accession to the International Coffee Agreement 2007 on 14 December 2015.
London, 14 December 2015 ─ The Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Mr Robério Oliveira Silva, has announced that Peru and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have completed membership procedures for the ICO under the International Coffee Agreement (ICA) 2007.
The accession of Peru and the ratification of the Democratic Republic of the Congo brings the ICO’s exporting country membership up to 42 Members. The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been a Signatory to the ICA 2007 since 23 September 2009.
According to ICO estimates, Peru’s total coffee production in crop year 2014/15 was 2.9 million 60kg bags, with total exports of 2.4 million bags. The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s total production in the same crop year was 335,000 bags with total exports at 135,000 bags. The ICO’s estimate for world coffee production in 2014/15 is 143.3 million bags.
The International Coffee Agreement 2007, the seventh Agreement since 1962, was agreed by the 77 Members of the International Coffee Council, meeting in London on 28 September 2007. It was formally adopted by the Council through Resolution 431 and entered into force definitively on 2 February 2011. Its Member Governments now represent 98% of world coffee production and 83% of world consumption.
